Dear all,
I'm doing a bit of research into a one-time follower of Crowley (quite an obscure figure, doesn't appear in the major biographies). He seems to have arrived at Thelema from a Theosophy/Anthroposophy background, and still seems to have had some involvement during his contact with AC. I am presuming that joining AC's 'movement' (as he terms it) in the mid 1920s would mean that he would have joined the Argentium Astrum or the OTO.
He refers to establishing a 'Lodge' in the UK as a tactical move; I am assuming that this would not have been an A.A. lodge since, as far as I can tell, it prescribed a course of private study, and direct communication with AC by the submission of magical diaries; group rituals or meetings don't appear to have featured - is this correct? I don't know whether AC may have been admitting people to the OTO during this period; would the OTO not have entailed lodges either?
If so, I can only assume that this Lodge would have been a Theosophical or Anthroposophical one - were ordinary members permitted to establish their own lodges? I view the formation of this lodge in the context of AC's repeated and unsuccessful attempts to supplant Annie Besant and Krishnamurti, and have himself recognised as the true 'World Teacher' (as in his manifesto, 'To Man' etc).
Thanks for any pointers anyone can give,
Best wishes,
Christopher Josiffe
