Subject: 'pigeon'
A pigeon here! - lost
in the shopping mall's
treeless spaces,
tiled floors, glass walls -
alights by the cafe crumbs
at these shoppers' feet.
Call security -
call a cleaner -
rescue - liberate.
A child stalks it
from behind -
pouncing
just too late.
It's alert, mobile,
iridescent,
pulsating, plump -
not worn out
as I'd expect.
A couple ushers it
gently towards
the exit - as if
pigeons understand
escalators.
Well! it steps on -
slowly proceeding
upwards towards
the roof top car park -
upwards towards
freedom on folded wings.
