The MRC Epidemiology Unit undertakes research on the causes and prevention of diabetes and obesity, including -- under the auspices of the Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR) -- evaluating the effects of environmental interventions on physical activity.
IRC64767 – Investigator Scientist (6 months)
You will clean, process and analyse the data required for a short-term project to quantify and validate physical activity and sedentary behaviours and related energy expenditure on the journey to and from work using synchronous self-reported and objective measures. The project will use data from the Commuting and Health in Cambridge study funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). You are likely to have (or shortly to be about to obtain) at least a Masters-level qualification in epidemiological or statistical methods, experience in the analysis of epidemiological or physical activity data and knowledge of statistical methods for validating epidemiological measures. A PhD in a relevant topic and experience in construct, criterion and convergent validation and the objective measurement of physical activity would be advantageous.
The post is based in Cambridge and is available from January 2013. The starting salary will be in the range of £26,022 – £31,758 per annum (MRC Band 4). This is supported by a flexible pay and reward scheme. The post offers 30 days’ annual leave and an optional MRC final salary pension scheme.
