SOCIAL SCIENTIST- ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIOUR

We are seeking a social scientist to join our team working on
environment-related behaviour in Scotland and more widely. The remit of this
post is to provide leadership in research on sustainable behaviour and
behaviour change, as well as leading bids for external funding.
Applicants must have a PhD or be nearing completion in a relevant subject
(such as environmental or social psychology, human geography, economics or
sociology), expertise in a specific topic (such as energy, food, land
management or transport), and the ability and interest to oversee research
on a wider range of topics. Applicants should be familiar with and
experienced in quantitative methods, ideally with an interest in
experimental, mixed-methods or qualitative research approaches.
Appointment with excellent employee benefits will be made within Band E
(£33,780 - £37,534) or Band F (£42,769 - £47,521) according to experience
and expertise, but could also be made within Band D with a correspondingly
lower level of responsibilities (starting salary range £26,610 –£29,566 per
annum).

We are seeking an economic geographer to join a team working on deepening
our understanding of the patterns of economic change and rural-urban
interactions in Scotland and more widely.
Applicants must have a PhD or be nearing PhD completion in a relevant
subject, such as economics, human geography or economic statistics, and have
a good understanding of the economics of resource flows across space and
time. The specific remit of this post within the Institute’s
government-funded research programme is to investigate the spatial patterns
of (economic) change, and the links between economic and social performance
by exploring, amongst other things, resource flows between urban and rural
areas and the impact of migration and counterurbanisation. A specialism in
one of these and/or related areas is desirable. Familiarity with analyses of
spatial data and relevant software is essential.

LAND SYSTEMS ANALYST

We are seeking a Land Systems Analyst to join an inter-disciplinary team
developing research with the Ecosystem Approach to understand current and
future land use change. The successful candidate will be tasked with
developing and using innovative participatory research approaches to
investigate the challenges of practical implementation of the ecosystem
approach with land use stakeholders.
Applicants must possess a PhD in a relevant subject and have a good
understanding of Land Use Policy. The ideal candidate will be able to
demonstrate an ability of using qualitative and quantitative methods for
systems analysis and using different approaches to elicit and categorise
stakeholder attitudes and behaviours. In addition, the candidate will be
able to demonstrate experience in writing proposals for, and gaining,
external funding.
