SPSS considers covariates to be ordered variables. Thus, categorical variables should not go in the covariate box, even if you consider them covariates. Categorical variables should go in the independent variable box. Dichotomous variables, however, are inherently "ordered" (presence versus absence) and, as long as it is coded numerically, can be entered as a covariate. So gender, coded (0, 1) forexample, could go into the covariate box or the independent variable box. Race/ethnicity, however, havoong more than 2 categories, could not go into the covariate box.

GREETINGS ALL
I AM USING PASW 18 FOR MY DATA ANALYSIS AND WHILE DOING BINARY LOGISTIC REGRESSION MY QUESTION IS THAT IF WE CONSIDER A CATEGORICAL VARIABLE AS A COVARIATE IN OUR ANALYSIS WHAT DIFFERENCE WILL IT MAKE.
IS IT OK TO USE A BINARY VARIABLE AS A CATEGORICAL?
CONFUSED
