That's a new one on me. The fibrates have cautions on them because of an
association with pancreatitis [although it could be that the underlying
condition caused the pancreatitis and the fibrate took the blame].

I have recently seen a patient from Romania with a history of severe
hypertriglyceridaemia and pancreatitis. He informed me that his standard
treatment whilst in Romania was to take 6 supralip/day (fenofibrate
160mg) for 1 week following an episode of pancreatitis, followed by 3
tablets a day long term maintenance. I've never come across fenofibrate
being used in such high doses before and I'd be interested to hear if
anyone else has, particularly those in the UK.

Thanks

Denise
