Hi Sophia,
Sounds a great idea and very different from anything else I've heard of
- good luck!
Not quite close enough for me to make one of the events though!

Subject: [PSCI-COM] Tales from the River Trent
Hi all,
(with apologies for cross-posting)
List-members may be interested in this experimental public engagement
project. Especially anyone near the River Trent. Some of you may
remember me as the woman who spent years posting a lot about I'm a
Scientist, Get me out of Here! I'm hoping this new venture will prove
just as effective, although it's a bit different.
We're walking the length of the River Trent in September, stopping at a
different place each day and doing an event. Each event will have a
storytelling and music performance in the first half. This performance
will be a mixture of folktales and factual stories - history, geology,
ecology, conservation, etc. The second half will be a chance for
audience members to chat and share stories with each other - we're keen
to get as many knowledgeable people along as possible! The idea is that
it's a much more friendly and informal setting for public engagement
than public talks, etc.
We start at Biddulph Moor in Staffs on 1st Sept, and end at Trent Falls
near Scunthorpe on 21st Sept. Details of the route are on the website
http://talesfromtheriver.wordpress.com/
There's a blogpost here explaining why we think walking along a river
telling stories counts as public engagement (although I'm not sure it's
going to count towards the REF...)

ublic-engagement/
Do come along to an event near you and share your amazing science
knowledge! And if you or your organisation might want to host an event,
please get in touch. (There's no charge, although if you come along and
enjoy it you can buy us a drink if you like).
Feel free to contact me (on or off list) if you'd like more information.
Best wishes,
Sophia
