Vacancy – Health Technology Assessment Analyst
Maternity cover (9-12 months from November 2012)
The BMJ-Technology Assessment Group (BMJ-TAG) is looking for a Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Analyst. You’ll report to the HTA Analysis Lead, and, together with colleagues, will be involved in high-quality independent research. You will personally be responsible for managing the production of high-quality reports summarising your work.
The BMJ-TAG is one of the Centres of Excellence for Health Technology Assessment (HTA) commissioned by the National Institute for Health Research to conduct independent scientific research to evaluate the value of health technologies for the NHS.
As HTA Analyst, your key role will be to critique the evidence submitted by manufacturers as part of the Nation Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) technology appraisal programme. You’ll be responsible for evaluating: strategies designed to systematically search the literature; the quality of the submitted evidence; and the validity of presented analyses.
In addition, you will also be involved in independent systematic reviews of the literature, collaborating with colleagues to draft methodological protocols, to generate search strategies, and to appraise the evidence identified. As part of this process, you may be required to carry out data analysis.
You'll have an undergraduate qualification in medicine, pharmacy, or a life science with a strong mathematical component. Ideally, you will also have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., MSc in Evidence Based Health Care, Medical Statistics, Public Health, or equivalent). You'll be highly computer literate, and familiarity with meta-analytic software (such as Review Manager) would be an advantage. You’ll also have an excellent understanding of the HTA requirement for decision-making based on clinical evidence and cost-effectiveness analysis.
As a member of the BMJ-TAG, you'll enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment. You'll enjoy working across multiple projects and prioritising commitments to ensure the BMJ-TAG meets the needs of the business.
