Dear All,
I am trying to find the specialist term for what it is that we used to do when you played on the bars at school as kids. This is a single horizontal bar that you hooked a leg over and then flung yourself forwards (or backwards) full circle as many times as you possibly could. Most New Zealanders I have asked say that they can only remember "playing on the bars". A friend in Scotland says it was called "twizzling" when she was a kid. I'm interested in whether there are any other examples of a specialised vocabulary item for this activity. (If there are not, I think the OED entry for "twizzle" needs updating.)
Many thanks, mm
