That's right - there is a de facto standard pattern. The pattern is
a) the inherited group.conf file (as Daniella calls it), with pilot role
as appropriate and
b) the addition of groups names "sgm" and "lcgprod" and
c) and the addition of a wildcard mapping.
This makes an atlas entry of:
"/atlas/sgm":::sgm:
"/atlas/lcgprod":::prd:
"/atlas/ROLE=lcgadmin":::sgm:
"/atlas/ROLE=production":::prd:
"/atlas/ROLE=pilot":::pilot:
"/atlas"::::
"/atlas/*"::::
Unless I am very much mistaken, that is the de facto standard pattern, and
it needs to be documented as such. I'd be grateful if sites who don't use
this pattern could let me know how they choose the FQANs to put inside
the groups.conf file.

True. At the present time, perhaps it is not practical use the CIC
portal as the basis for
making the groups.conf file. But in any case, I've added an option to
VomsSnooper
(https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/VomsSnooper_Tools) to write out the FQANs
for any
VO, so that the process could be automated in future.

I'll make sure that is included in the "de facto standard pattern".

I blame those Romans for issues related to case-sensitivity. Papyri
from Herculaneum <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herculaneum> dating
before 79 had lower-case letters. It's too late
to GGUS ticket them now because they're all dead. We'll have to find
a workaround.
