Hi All
We have a one day conference coming up in a couple of weeks at the Barbican in London and I thought it might interest MCG members.
The event is called Culture Geek ( http://www.culturegeek.com ), and it brings together an inter nation line up of speakers to talk about digital marketing in the arts.
9.30 Keynote: Andy Levey
Senior Manager of New Media and Analytics
Cirque du Soleil - Resident Shows Division
Cirque du Soleil is one of the most recognised companies in live entertainment. There are 21 total productions currently throughout the world (seven of them permanently housed in Las Vegas) and a 3D movie coming this winter.
With fans coming from all around the world, the most efficient and effective way of developing a relationship with them is through social media. From researching about a Cirque show to tweeting during intermission to posting pictures in front of a big top, you’ll discover Cirque du Soleil’s strategy for engaging its fans using the full spectrum of social media.
10.30 Chris Mellor
Creative Producer
Broadway Theatre Barking and Camden Theatres
Have you ever thought how livesteaming can
add value to your work? Whether you are a small arts organisation or an independent producer livestreaming can provide a low cost effective means of engaging with your audience and
providing a possible income stream.
Chris Mellor shares the learning of the Camden Theatre’s livestreaming trials when fourteen small and middle scale venues undertook to introduce livestreaming of their summer programmes.
This session aims to give you a few insights and top tips to getting started on the ‘livestream bandwagon’.
11.15 Ellen West & Jamie Tetlow
Royal Opera House
Jamie and Ellen talk about their ongoing project to rebuild the Royal Opera House website along semantic lines. They talk about the challenges of thoroughly modelling information for a cultural institution, and the potential benefits for arts organisations of exposing their data.
12.00 Lunch
1.00 Jill Colvin
Head of Marketing, Communications & Digital Strategy
Sydney Festival
Sydney Festival puts its audience at the centre of its digital marketing activity, seeing social media and digital channels as an extension of the festival experience. Desktop, mobile and social channels each answer a specific need and help create a more meaningful experience for people before, during and after the event.
Jill will talk through some of the developments made by the festival in the past year and share some initiatives on the way for 2013, when this customer-centric approach will be taken even further.
1.45 Tijana Tasich & Elena Villaespesa
TATE
Tijana Tasich is the Senior Digital Producer
and Elena Villaespesa is the Web Analyst and Producer at Tate. They are going to talk about the journey they have started at Tate a year ago of spreading the culture of analytics across the organisation including challenges met on their way as well as happy endings when numbers do tell stories.
2.30 Afternoon break
3.00 Shamir Allibhai
Digital Strategist and New Media Producer,
Doha Film Institute
How can you be nimble and responsive to the demands of social media and yet thoughtful
and creative as an arts organisation? How do you extend your narrative online and create content that engages with your audiences and helps you find new ones? How can you be platform agnostic and platform sensitive both at the same time? Is digital/social media part of Marketing, Communications or its own department?
