PROJECT MANAGEMENT FOR PUBLISHING

11TH DECEMBER, OXFORD

Project Management for Publishing is one of our most popular courses and is
aimed at all of those in publishing who have to undertake projects. This is
a well established course and over the years it has been continuously
developed, updated and extended to ensure it meets the changing requirements
of its delegates. Tutors Rowena Roche, Wiley-Blackwell and Jim Russell, RPM
Associates who both have extensive experience in Project Management provide
a highly interactive day which includes a mix of presentations, case studies
and practical break out sessions.

By the end of the course delegates will gain an overview of the most popular
project management tools and techniques, be able to appreciate the benefits
of a project management approach when introducing change; be able to apply
the skills learned through practical exercises; be aware of the importance
of personal and cultural factors in effective management of change.

DELEGATE COMMENTS

'Very informative, good balance of theory and practical examples. Good
overview of project management applicable to a variety of situations.
Materials and their presentation all very good. Break out sessions for
participants very useful.' Helena King, Royal Irish Academy

'Very interesting with some great ideas and tips to use on next project. '
Jenny Hudson, BMJ Group

'Good overview while generic enough to apply to range of
organisations/roles. Comprehensive and clear. ' Michaelagh Broadbent,
Society for Underwater Technology

'A useful taster of project management as applied to publishing. Motivating
and educational. ' Natalie Wilder, Society for General Microbiology

'A good overview - great to take time out to think about these things. Great
to have all the notes/diagrams there. ' Daniel Pearce, Cambridge University
Press

OVERVIEW

Increasingly, PM techniques are being used by publishers in order to handle
change effectively. For example, moving a journal from one typesetter to
another, or planning a marketing campaign with complex time-critical
interdependencies are examples that will be familiar. In both of these cases
and many others, PM techniques can be employed to ensure a successful
outcome. The course will demonstrate, through the use of case studies, how
to apply effective PM techniques within publishing.
