The Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre (CTC) is part of the Cancer Institute at University College London, and is one of the largest cancer trials centres in the UK.
The CTC is responsible for the design, conduct and analysis of multi-centre national and international clinical phase I/II and III trials in a variety of cancers, to evaluate new treatments (chemotherapy, surgery or radiotherapy) or screening tests. We have a vacancy for a medical statistician, preferably with a background in clinical trials. The vacancy will provide a valuable opportunity to make an important contribution to cancer research, and to learn more about applied medical statistics.
The successful candidate must have a post-graduate (M.Sc. or above) in Medical Statistics or related subject. Knowledge of statistical methods of design and analysis in medical research are essential, and some practical experience in clinical trials and/or epidemiological studies would be advantageous (though recent postgraduates will be considered). The post holder will work closely with clinical investigators and CTC staff to contribute to the design of new trials, and be involved in the development of interim reports and final analyses. The post holder will also be able to develop their own research interests and contribute to postgraduate teaching within the CTC and the Cancer Institute. He/she will be given experience in developing applications for grant funding and trial protocols, and be involved in writing papers for publication with investigators.
Salary: £32,055 - £38,744 (Grade 7) per annum, including London Weighting.
The appointment is funded until September 2013 in the first instance, and grants are expected to be renewed every 5 years.
