Colleagues
I send this as I know Dave Britton is in transit, and would wish to do so.
You will all be aware of the CERN meeting this morning at which the discovery of a
"particle compatible with the Higgs Boson was announced"
During all of the talks from the spokespersons of ATLAS and CMS, as well as the CERN DG,
the crucial role of the computing grid was mentioned very explicitly several times.
This is a testament to all of the computing effort, and of course to the entire GridPP team within the UK
Well done to all - we are part of history !
I include below the mail form Ian Bird
Pete, for the PMB
Dear all,
I am sure you have all seen or heard the announcements from CERN this morning on the Higgs discoveries in ATLAS and CMS. As has been mentioned several times during the seminar, but also in the following press conference, the computing has been an integral part of this achievement. The DG had a summary statement that listed the 3 essential tools "the accelerator – the experiments – Grid computing". A significant achievement that we can all feel proud to be a part of and is important to communicate to all your collaborators and funding agencies.
Regards,
Ian
