Hello to all. Saludos!
We are a design firm doing Smartphone applications for our customers in the
Caribbean. We have encounter what we first thought was a weird glitch, but
it has shown in four different clients. That is, although they have
Smartphone and capable computers, their understanding, comprehension and
use is limiting. We have identified it because we use user-centered and
contextual inquiries methodologies.
We are detecting what it seems a type of digital illiteracy in the used of
the Smartphone. Although they may have the last IPhone or Android, they
used it as a phone and text messaging only. We also noticing they keep
quiet about it, this is coming from both gender, educated professionals
from 30 to 50, middle and high income.
We have identified similar reports in Latin America.
We were wondering if fellows member of this list have encounter such
behavior or/and can direct us to related literature.
We were so taken back at this that we launched our on inquiry in the
matter, because of what we understand in the relationship between citizen
rights with digital literacy. We intent to publish findings of this inquiry
to the benefit of UX Designer
Gracias.
