Job Ref: R6/PAD/605/12-JT
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a collaborative research team headed by Dr Michael Simpson (Division of Genetics and Molecular Medicine, KCL) and Professor Robert Plomin (MRC SGDP Centre, Institute of Psychiatry, KCL). The post will be based within the Division of Genetics and Molecular Medicine, in the School of Medicine at King’s College London. The Division is a world leader in genetic and genomic research of human diseases and traits, and houses state-of-the-art genomics equipment and bioinformatic infrastructure within a multidisciplinary research environment.
The successful candidate will work on the ERC funded ‘Genetics of High Cognitive Abilities’ programme, which is focused on the identification of genetic variation underlying cognitive abilities. This position provides an exciting opportunity to work in a cross-disciplinary research group that is applying cutting-edge genomic technologies and analytical approaches to the study of human cognition.
This innovative project is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding postdoctoral researcher. The postholder will be responsible for the development and implementation of computational and statistical approaches to the analysis of large-scale genomic datasets. The Genetics of High Cognitive Abilities Programme is generating genomewide SNP genotyping, whole exome and whole genome sequencing data and the post holder will be actively engaged with the analysis of these data. You will work closely within the multidisciplinary research group and establish new collaborations. The successful applicant will be expected to communicate results in scientific presentations and publications.
Applicants should have a strong background in statistics, bioinformatics, computing or genetics with a demonstrated strong analytical component, and an interest in the genetic basis of complex traits. Candidates should have a proven publication track record, be highly motivated individuals with excellent communication skills, and have the ability to work independently.
