I have late Saxon chicken remains at Alfred's Castle (ditched enclosure), i.e. Late 9th-early 11th but only identified as that date through radiocarbon dates and few post-Roman structures but no pottery or other material. Are you interested? Not published yet, though. And none are butchered and perhaps only 2 females.
Cheers,
Priscilla

Hi all,
I am trying to identify any Anglo-Saxon and Viking sites throughout Europe which demonstrate chicken remains, particularly with reference to butchery and the male/female ratios, where possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Steph
