I'm delighted to announce that Steven Maras of the University of Sydney has agreed to act as Returning Officer for the forthcoming elections to the new Executive Council.

This means that nominations for election to the EC (i.e. a short statement plus names of proposer and seconder) MUST be sent DIRECT to Steven by Thursday 16th August 2012, Sydney time. His email address is [log in to unmask]  Please do NOT send any nominations to me.

If an election is necessary, Steven will then send a message around the Network, listing the names nominated. This message will be sent as soon after the 16th as possible, and before Thursday 30th August.

Each member then has 5 votes (NOT in any order of preference). Please send the 5 (or less) names you are voting for direct to Steven by email. He will collect and count the votes. This must be done byThursday 13th September Sydney time.

If you are attending the Sydney conference and are not voting by email, there will be an opportunity to vote during the AGM. Steven will then count all votes and announce the result.

Allow me to encourage you to stand for the Executive Council, as we need good and committed people to help steer the SRN over the next year or two. Whether you stand or not, please take a few moments to consider the nominations and vote.

Finally, please do NOT engage in an email conversation with Steven. As Returning Officer his task is merely to collect nominations and votes, see they have been made in accordance with the rules, and count the votes. He cannot provide any information about constitutional questions.
