Subject: Call for Articles (postgrads): Global Protests and Neoliberal Cities
----------------- Message requiring your approval (50 lines) ------------------ With apologies for cross-posting:
Call for Papers:
Global Protests and Neoliberal Cities
From mass uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East through the Indignados protests in Spain to the Occupy movements across the rest of the world, the period since 2010 has seen global demonstrations against injustice, austerity and neoliberal globalisation. One common thread bridging this worldwide spectacle of protests is urban space. From Cairo to London, Madrid to Tunis, Casablanca to New York, Athens to Dakar, Santiago to Moscow, the city has been the stage of the first truly global movement of protest in the twenty-first century.
For its next special issue, Stirling International Journal of Postgraduate Research is inviting original research articles by, but not exclusively, current and recent postgraduates from the UK and around the world. We are looking for proposals around topics which include, but are not restricted to:
The neoliberal city and resistance
Globalisation and the city
Youth and the city
The neoliberal city in art, cinema, literature and the media
In keeping with the journal’s interdisciplinary nature, priority will be given to proposals with a cross-disciplinary contribution to the special issue, which will also include book reviews of recent publications about relevant themes.
If you are interested in contributing a paper on protest and the neoliberal city, please send an abstract (max. 300 words) to [log in to unmask] before 30 July 2012.
