Dear all,  The Open Rights Group has today launched an action to
encourage people who are affected by Ofcom’s plans to respond to the
consultation.  All is explained on their website -
http://www.openrightsgroup.org/blog/2012/tell-ofcom-to-fix-the-threat-to
-wifi  Essentially The Open Rights Group is trying to encourage those
who provide WiFi to consumers to respond to the consultation, that may
be a library of pub. The Open Rights Group directs people to the Ofcom
website where they can respond, or alternatively people can provide the
Open Rights Group with a case study on how the proposals would impact on
them, which the Open Rights Group will use for their response.  It would
be great if you could spread the message on your networks.  Also, we are
preparing to put out a press statement on Thursday, focusing in
particular on the mess with regards to public bodies which provide
internet access. We will also send our response with a strongly worded
cover letter to the Secretary of State for Culture, advising him to not
approve Ofcom’s code, and to direct Ofcom to make provisions in the code
to clarify the situations for WiFi providers, businesses and public
bodies which provide internet access to consumers.   It is likely that
there will be a reshuffle after the Olympics. If the Secretary of State
moves on, we will congratulate the new Secretary of State on his
appointment, and ask him not to approve Ofcom’s code.  Best,Saskia
