Ref 447/12 Career Development Fellow in Statistics for Hyperspectral

The University of Western Sydney is a large multi-campus university
servicing a diverse range of students. The School of Computing,
Engineering and Mathematics utilises the synergy of information and
communication technologies, engineering and mathematics.
We seek an energetic, forward thinking, dynamic, and innovative
scholar to take on a Career Development Fellowship for a fixed term
appointment of two years. The appointee will be based at Parramatta
Campus. The mathematical sciences researchers at UWS conduct research
in pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. In
particular, the group is building its research in statistics and
signal processing.
The successful applicant will undertake research in statistical
methods for the analysis of hyperspectral signals and images.
Hyperspectral data occurs in remote sensing (airborne now and
satellite in the future) and in biology. The position is intended to
develop methods from multispectral imaging to the hyperspectral
setting using sparsity-promoting and regularisation ideas.
The successful applicant is expected to be developing a strong
international standing and research reputation, have an excellent
research background in the field of computational statistics,
undertake independent research, be involved in research student
supervisions, organise and/or participate in various research
activities including research seminars and discussions, short courses,
mentoring programs and career development activities, and research
grant applications, and contribute to the University’s teaching
programs.
Remuneration Package: Academic Level A $80,165 to $96,851 per annum
(comprising Salary $67,740 to $81,840 p.a., 17% Superannuation, Leave
Loading)
