Dear MCGers,

first, a quick reminder that July 11 is almost upon us and the MCG and
DLNet will be in Manchester for our joint conference 'Engaging digital
audiences in museums' in less than two weeks. I'm super-excited about
our great line-up, including our keynote speakers Matthew Cock, Head
of Web, The British Museum and Nick Winterbotham, Group for Education
in Museums (GEM) Chair, our workshop leaders Greg Povey and Shona
Carnall, Alyson Webb and Lindsey Green, Pauline Webb and Michael
Woodward and our speakers Lucinda Blaser, John Coburn, Isabel
Benavides and Martha Henson and of course my co-chair Claire Ross. And
it's not just about our speakers - there's an unconference session
designed to let you address the latest issues in museum technology and
education.

I also wanted to give you a heads up about the Manchester edition of
#drinkingaboutmuseums (for background see
http://www.meetup.com/coloradomuseums/ or
http://openobjects.blogspot.com/2012/06/drinking-about-museums-new-york-edition.html)
on July 10, the night before the conference. If you're in town we'd
love to see you there! If you're planning on coming, let me know to
help plan numbers.

Cheers, Mia

Subject: Engaging digital audiences in museums conference - book now
before train tickets get really expensive!
To: [log in to unmask]

Dear all

The ‘Engaging digital audiences in museums’ conference in Manchester
is THREE WEEKS TODAY! Don’t forget to book your place now at
http://mcg-dlnet.eventbrite.com/ whilst there’s still some chance of
cheaper train tickets for travelling to Manchester!

A quick reminder about the conference content below.

Hope to see you in three weeks!
Rhiannon

PS tip: you might want to start thinking about which workshop you’d
like to attend in the afternoon – they will all be great so it might
be a tough choice!

----------------------------------------

We just wanted to remind you all about the forthcoming conference,
curated jointly by the Museums Computer Group and the Digital Learning
Network. The conference will bring together the two worlds of museum
technology and museum learning and encourage them to talk and learn
from each others’ skills and experience. Museums are finding more and
more ways to use digital technologies to enhance their learning and
public engagement programmes. Technology has tremendous potential to
engage, excite and inspire people, to make learning more flexible and
to cater for different learning styles and abilities.  In many
museums, however, the work of learning departments and technology
teams is still quite separate.

Museum technologists will learn about tried and tested techniques used
by colleagues in Learning departments to measure the impact of digital
projects on audiences. Learning teams will be inspired by the
potential of digital technologies to achieve learning outcomes,
audience engagement and reach.
