Event outline:
This event is aimed at subject/liaison librarians, and others responsible for providing support to academic departments, who have little or no experience of research data management (RDM) and related issues, but are likely to become increasingly involved in supporting RDM activities as institutions begin to develop policies and services.
Michael Day (UKOLN), on behalf of the Digital Curation Centre, will provide an introduction to Research Data Management – what research data is, why it is important, how research data is managed, current options for data storage (national and subject centres), emerging funder mandates, and how librarians are involved in all of this.
This will be complimented by a number of brief presentations from institutions (confirmed speakers are from University of West England’s Managing Research Data project, Leeds’ RoaDMaP and Sheffield’s RDM Rose) in the JISC funded Managing Research Data Programme (JISCMRD) to provide some practical examples/ideas of how librarians can get involved in supporting RDM in their institutions.
Delegates will also take part in a number of breakout groups to discuss issues such as ‘how librarians can support research data management’; ‘what impact research data management might/will have on their roles’ etc.
To book please visit the JIBS website: http://www.jibs.ac.uk/events/intro.html
Please note that RLUK and JIBS member institutions can send one free delegate. Non-members will be charged at our standard rate of £100 per delegate. Member institutions may send additional delegates at a rate of £50 per delegate. Due to limited numbers we will limit institutions to a maximum of 2 delegates, although we will maintain a waiting list should you wish to send more than 2 people.
