Jo
From Moldova this week, where I recommend the trolley buses in Chisinau.
I agree with Lewis.
Please could you be more precise about the location and the market.
It differs with geography and with touring journey length too. And
tourists travelling longer distances may divide between those on
guided tours and the more adventurous.
In cities, one of the most important issues appears to be
information, particularly for complex systems and networks. So
choice between public transport modes may also depend on this factor.
For example, in both Hong Kong and London, the excellent, highly
connected but complex bus systems may be neglected by tourists in
favour of simpler metro networks. Use of the well advertised and
promoted Paddington link from Heathrow is far higher than a standard
assignment model would suggest, whereas young impecunious Asian
tourists relying on good information from friends as to the best
route to cheap hotels in London will usually be found on the Piccadilly Line.
Research in this area is well worthwhile, but it will need focus.
Trust this helps.
