The Center for Strategic Communication (CSC) and the Department of Psychology at
Arizona State University seek an Assistant Research Professor in multi-modal
neuroimaging beginning August 2012. This position would support a research project
sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) involving
multi-modal neuroimaging (fMRI + EEG) of narrative comprehension and persuasion.
The appointment is for full time employment (40 hours per week). Initial appointment is
through April 2013 and renewal for up to two additional 18 month periods is possible,
contingent on continued funding by the sponsor and satisfactory job performance.
Salary is up to $70,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Support for travel
to conferences will be available. Affiliations and collaborative opportunities with other
academic units are possible. Applicants are responsible for relocation and housing
expenses. Preferred start date is August 16, 2012.

Eligibility and Required Expertise
Applicants must have a relevant earned doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering,
Electrical Engineering, Neuroscience, or a related field/discipline. Candidates with
pending degrees who will have successfully completed all requirements by August 15,
2012 will also be considered.
Applicants must have relevant expertise in fMRI and EEG data acquisition methods,
signal processing, and quantitative analysis of neuroimaging data.
Desired Expertise
Relevant expertise or experience in multi-modal mapping (fMRI + EEG) of cognitive and
social psychological processes and/or neuropsychology of narrative or persuasion.
Experience with behavioral experimental design. Candidates with existing postdoctoral
positions and relevant publication record are preferred.
Responsibilities
Assistant Research Professors are expected to carry out the research plan and fulfill the
goals established with the supervising faculty members, Drs. Gene Brewer and Leslie
Baxter; to assist the supervising faculty members and other Principal Investigators in
fulfilling the requirements of the grant in a timely manner; to communicate regularly with
the supervising faculty member and other members of the research team; and to notifythe faculty member of any change in research plans.
Beyond grant-related activities, our facilities will help create valuable opportunities for
the postdoctoral scholar to continue their fMRI and EEG research agenda, develop new
multi-modal techniques, teach, and get training experience.
