Information Rights Case Advisers at the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS)
We're recruiting Information Rights Case Advisers for the Security and Information Rights (SIR) Team in BIS.
BIS supports sustained growth and higher skills across the economy. In BIS, the SIR Team advises on requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs), and Data Protection Act (DPA). The Team also advises on FOI and EIR cases and provides DPA advice to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
This is an excellent opportunity to make a personal impact in a high profile area. The posts offer a wide view of both Departments activities, particularly where these give rise to public, press and Parliamentary interest, and provide extensive contact across BIS and DECC. Case advisers:
• Provide guidance to colleagues dealing with FOI, EIR and DPA requests. Provide advice on processes and procedures and the implementation of the legislation.
• Advise on problematic and sensitive issues; liaise with lawyers on legal issues; and stakeholders on particularly sensitive cases.
• Act as lead advisers for units of BIS and DECC, working with customers to raise awareness of information rights legislation and improve performance.
• Represent the SIR team at internal and interdepartmental meetings on information rights issues.
• Manage related areas (eg FOIA Publication Scheme, provide management information, etc., etc.)
We're looking for evidence of your ability to analyse and use information, and communications, organisation and people management skills. You should have a minimum of one year’s experience in the last two years in a similar role covering FOI, the EIRs and/or DPA.
