The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) at the University of
Portsmouth in collaboration with the South East Physics Network (SEPNet)
intends to appoint an astronomy outreach officer. A PhD and relevant
experience is required. The post is initially for 6 months with an
extension depending on further funding, starting as soon as possible,
ideally by mid-July 2012.
The successful candidate will work on developing and implementing
astronomy based outreach content to support the outreach goals of ICG and
SEPNet. This may include developing content for and using (1) The SEPNet
Astrodomes, and (2) Zooteach and Galaxy Zoo Interactive (new tools for
using Galaxy Zoo and other Zooniverse projects in the classroom). In
addition the candidate will help in the tracking of impact via public
engagement, and in the running of major public engagement events.
There will be a large amount of traveling and evening work, occasional
weekend work and the possibility of travel away from home involving
overnight stay(s). A CRB check and a driving licence will be required.
