Hi Jacqui
You are probably aware of the huge amount of ageing literature that there is out there and I could attach lots of documents for ref (still can if you want) but I would take a functional assessment approach and also risk assess their job to see if there are any factors that don't match their functionality just like you would anyone else.
The objective justification argument comes in here and that is the phrase I explain when communicating to managers about this type of issue. I did write something up last year which mentions this and attach for your reference.

Morning all
I’m looking for some phrasing, ideas regarding the aging work force. Specifically I have seen 2 people recently who are working over the age of 65 , in their opinion carrying out their normal role but manager has referred due to concerns regarding their fitness for work i.e ‘manager thinks they are getting to old to do the job’.
I know it comes down to performance monitoring but want to give managers that advice without making them bringing in the big guns and stress these people totally and of course need to avoid having any age discrimination issues.
