Postdoctoral Position in Physical Chemistry in the Nathanson Group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA
I invite you to apply for a postdoctoral position in my group to explore collisions and reactions at the surfaces of high vapor pressure liquids using liquid microjets. These liquids include pure and salty water and hydrocarbon mixtures used in jet fuels. The three projects focus on
*interfacial solvation and dissociation of acidic molecules such as HCl in pure and salty water and interfacial acid-base and proton exchange reactions
*“explosive” interfacial oxidation-reduction reactions, including halogen exchange between gaseous F2 and halide ions at the surface of salty water
*evaporation, condensation, and aging of jet fuel droplets, including radical-surface reactions and non-Maxwellian evaporation from liquids
These studies involve gas-liquid scattering experiments coupled with liquid microjets. Although experience with molecular beams and vacuum systems is desirable, the most important attribute is a keen interest in exploring interfacial chemistry at the atomic level.
Please contact Gil Nathanson at [log in to unmask] or 608-262-8098 for more information. This postdoctoral position is available immediately.
