Dear Bridged
As your email has gone to the 'list', as someone completely outside the project, I just wanted to offer some reflections on what your email seems to me to be saying.
I think I hear:
'we don't know how this confusion happened'- meaning: it's not our fault
'we're already working with you and it's exciting'- meaning: you have nothing to complain about
'we've had some great responses'- meaning: other people are delighted with us and that's the main thing
I raise this not to apportion blame - we've all written similar emails I suspect. But because I feel your email is part of some wider issues that need thinking about in how we respond to complaints and the power dynamics of this e.g. the use of positive messaging. Especially important because I know you are coming from a community development perspective.
Perhaps these are quite subtle or even trivial issues in the grand scheme of what we're all up against just now, but sometimes small things matter.
Kind regards
Lynne

Hi Monica
Oh dear I'm not sure where the confusion has arisen. Of course we are already working with you closely and look forward to that continuing to both our benefits and I know that Leanne Metcalf has contacted you about this already. I am looking forward to meeting you again at the next workshop at the end of the month which we expect to be very exciting.
I just wanted to clarify that my request to the mailing list is because we are also very keen to gain as much information, advise and expertise as possible from the wider professional community as well, and I am delighted to say that I have already had some great responses and will be following those up shortly.
See you soon.
Regards

Subject: RE: South Asian TV - Awareness campaign
Dear Bridged,
We have been with asthma uk on a review of interventions for south Asian families. From this we received NHS funding for the MIA project . This is a project to develop tailored interventions for south asian families with asthma. One of the interventions was for an awareness campaign on asthma. We have all the evidence base from many qualitative interviews and we are currently in the position of doing further workshops with the community and families to design an awareness campaign with them. The questions you have asked below are covered in our own work.
Obviously because ours is a research study we will have the evidence but not the money etc do create and awareness campaign,.In addition I am the chair of the south Asian health foundation working group for children and it would be fantastic if we could join forces form the research perspective and our foundation perspective to work with you on the campaign. We have a toolkit for designing campaigns for south Asians and I am due to meet with someone next week who has created Bollywood type films on diabetes etc.
I am surprised you are not aware f all this work. We have engaged with asthma uk at every step of our work to ensure we can work with you on taking the findings forward.
I am due to meet with Leanne in the next month to share our research findings and asthma uk have been invited to our workshops previously and will be again in the next few months where the campaign will be discussed further.
Looks like we urgently need to meet and discuss how to jointly take the agenda forward.
Monica

Subject: South Asian TV - Awareness campaign
Dear Colleagues
A request for advise or ideas please.
Asthma UK is planning to develop a basic Asthma Awareness ad for broadcast on South Asian satellite TV for 2013. Our aim is to provide basic information as well as informing viewers how to access our specialist Asthma Nurse helpline via telephone translation services. Does anyone have any advice or tips that they would be happy to offer, eg,:
- Which channels to use
- Kind of costs to expect
- Problems that you have experienced
- Should ads be filmed in each chosen language or overdubbed
- HCPs versus lay presenters
Anything you can think of that you could share experience of would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
