Hi Sarah,
I think the word tap refers to the processing of tapping, as in creating a hole at the bottom of the vessel to extract the alcohol and doesnt necessarily have to have an actual tap (although others can obviously correct me). So in this case it would probably be best referring to them as tap-jars, unless there is an actual term.
This doesnt come from any great knowledge of historical objects like this, only a gathered knowledge from a few years of home brewing.
Thanks
Paul

Subject: Tap Jar
Hello all
Can anyone help? Do you know which Thesaurus term would fit this object (see picture). The article refers to them as 'tap-jars'. I had thought of 'demi-john' but that doesn't really fit and that doesn't appear in the thesaurus either.
Could I call it a 'BUNGHOLE JAR'?
Thank you
Best wishes
Sarah
