Do you feel a need to do so?
There has been in the past couple of decades a very large relaxation
in confidentiality.
With that goes a reduction in the risk of suffering from doing what
you think is right, if you are acting reasonably.
I see no reason why _you_ would not.
Prior to that, catching the Chief Constable or the local PC as they
went about their business for a quiet word was probably the way, but
one would not know.
