Lancaster University is delighted to have been sent a special recording of Austrian Nobel laureate Elfriede Jelinek reading from her play, Ein Sportstück. Jelinek has made the recording in honour of the upcoming conference on her work and world première of the English translation of Sports Play at the Nuffield Theatre on 11 July. The recording can be heard at http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fass/events/jelinek/sportsplay-recording.htm and full conference details are at http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fass/events/jelinek/. In addition to papers on Jelinek's work (and its intersection with sport as theme and as discourse), there is an interactive translation workshop (involving materials from a number of different languages) and a roundtable on Plays in Translation on the British Stage. The conference and the première are generously supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum (London).
Do listen in, or, better still, come along and contribute to the debate (sports gear not compulsory...).
Best wishes
Allyson
