Hi Rachel,
I have checked with the bone collection in our museum of natural history. It is definitely a hyoid bone of an equid, the size indicates a horse. Your fragment is the median part of the hyoid arch, seldom illustrated in textbooks. You find a picture in the german veterinary atlas by Nickel, Schummer & Seiferle, though not detailed enough to allow identification if you only have seen that drawing.
