Hi Helen
10-15 mins is usually a better timeframe as if you use any shorter period, it can aggravate users who are talking to someone about something on screen etc.
This should be combined though with some education and some user behavior changes. I got into the habit of locking my machine when I left my desk and now it's second nature.
Whatever you do, communicate it to users, not just that you're doing it but the rationale for it aswell.
Good luck

My initial feeling is that 3-5 minutes is the most common period (depending on the access levels of different teams and other security factors), but I'd appreciate it if others could confirm or deny my suspicions!
