For broadcast, I insist on only the reading voice. Most poet readers
seem to say this, live or recorded. (This not to say that a reading
cannot done with musicians.)
Reading (not by an actor with mixed in sound effects) in a voice that
can read the poetic score, so to speak, should make the listener open to
the poem. In a sense the listener writes the poem as they hear it read.
Adding sound effects or an actor's dramatic effects would make a poem
more difficult for a listener since it interferes and blocks the
listeners writing of the poem.
