Dear colleagues,
Derbyshire Record Office and Derbyshire Local Studies Library are in the process of becoming a single service, as we prepare to move into the same building next spring. One of many potentially headache-inducing tasks before us is the integration of our finding aids. Users currently find local studies material using a (straightforward and reliable) card index, and archival material using our CALM browser and hard-copy catalogues on the searchroom shelves. We have an ongoing project to convert the old catalogues to CALM, but only half the collections are on CALM as yet (and these with varying levels of compliance with standards). It looks as though the logical thing to do is to get all the archive catalogues onto CALM as soon as possible, and to start using CALM to catalogue all the local studies stuff.
Is anyone able to share the benefits of their experience in this kind of thing?
Yours,
Mark Smith
