I can imagine Elid fan-fiction, people inserting him (or an
abstraction of certain of his qualities, bearing his name) into
different scenes and confrontations.
I like about him that he isn't so much "speaking truth to power" as
politely refusing certain kinds of trumpery, even when it is impolitic
to do so. He's the sort of person arrogant people call arrogant,
because he doesn't indulge their arrogance with the expected
complaisance. From one perspective this is socially myopic - a way to
lose friends and alienate people. From another, his effrontery even
when menaced - as if he can't quite help himself, which it seems he
can't - is enjoyable and invites identification. From whom? Well, in
modern times he'd be banished to a server room somewhere...
