Dear List,
I misunderstood the nature of MEND. It was not clear to me but this is actually a group related to the Hospital for Sick Children at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Institute of Child Health at University College London. The posting was not a commercial plug.
Apologies to all.
Kind regards
Kevin

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Momenta adult weight management
Momenta is a group-learning programme which support people to reduce their weight by 5-12% over 12 weeks; and sustain that weight reduction for the rest of their lives. I attach some introductory slides and have copied some additional information below my signature strip, which I hope provides a useful overview.
The service delivery is designed to be flexible so that delivers the same health outcomes, even when implemented in a range of different situations. In Carlise City Council Momenta is provided to employees in offices as one component of a workplace wellness scheme; and is delivered during lunch hour. In Sussex, it is being run from local authority leisure centres, managed by DC Leisure, to public subscribers; In London Momenta offerred by personal trainers to their clients. And, in Wandsworth, it has been commissioned by the NHS as an adult weight management service for patients referred by GPs.
Given that about 60% of adults in the UK are either overweight or obese, we recognise that clinically-effective weight management services could deliver significant improvements in the health and wellbeing of employees.
Feel free to forward this correspondence to relevant colleagues and please do get back to me should you be interested in partnering.

MEND's vision is a world where we all live fitter, healthier and happier lives.
The philosophy underpinning Momenta:
Informed by clinical evidence, the Momenta programme facilitates behaviour-change around nutrition and physical activity using proven and appropriate techniques. Participants are supported to break the ‘yo-yo’ cycle of dieting and fad methods of weight loss. The course aims to help people lose weight and provide them with the skills to maintain weight-loss over the long-term.
Momenta is designed to be educational, informative and fun. The group interaction and education programme is supported by tools both on and off-line to help participants practically apply the skills they are learning. Participants learn about the relationship between exercise and nutrition and the role they play when it comes to losing weight and making healthy lifestyle changes.
The Momenta programme is designed to:
Develop innovative and effective ways to address the lifestyle behaviours that lead to overweight and obesity.
Provide an open ended, rolling 12 week courses that can be joined at any stage during the programme.
Ensure comprehensive support, training and resources for fitness staff to ensure the effective implementation.
Offer long-term support after course completion to ensure sustainable lifestyle changes
Within this context, participants are supported to: Adopt healthy diets by consuming fewer calories (energy) than they expend; Understand that that how you eat is as important as what you eat; Recognise the importance of whole-grains to achieve satiety (feeling fuller for longer); Schedule exercise into a busy life and build lean muscle to burn energy; Develop practical life skills to sustain weight loss (most notably, problem-solving & goal-setting).
