Reminder - Post Doctoral Research Associate in Reaction Dynamics in Liquids
at the University of Bristol
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deadline for receipt of applications is 9:00 am (UK time) on 01 June 2012
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Applications are invited for an ERC-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate
to work with Prof Andrew Orr-Ewing in the Laser Chemistry, Spectroscopy and
Dynamics Group in the School of Chemistry at the University of Bristol.
Research will focus on ultrafast laser studies of chemical reactions and
photodissociation dynamics in solution in liquids. The work will be
carried out in a newly established ultrafast laser laboratory in the School
of Chemistry, and in continued collaboration with colleagues at the ULTRA
Facility at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.
Examples of our recent work in this area can be found in the following
publications:
"Vibrationally quantum-state-specific reaction dynamics of H atom
abstraction by CN radical in solution", S.J. Greaves et al., Science, 331,
1423-1426 (2011)
"Chemical reaction dynamics in liquid solutions", A.J. Orr-Ewing et al. J.
Phys. Chem. Lett. 2, 1139-1144 (2011).
"Vibrationally quantum-state-specific dynamics of the reactions of CN
radicals with organic molecules in solution", R.A. Rose et al., J. Chem.
Phys. 134, 244503 (2011).
"Ultrafast energy flow in the wake of solution phase bimolecular
reactions", D.R. Glowacki et al. Nature Chemistry 3, 850-855 (2011).
"Product energy deposition for CN + alkane H abstractions in gas and
solution phases", D.R. Glowacki et al., J. Chem. Phys. 134, 314508 (2011).

solutions", R.A. Rose et al., PCCP in press; DOI: 10.1039/C2CP40158D (2012).
Applicants should have (or be about to receive) a Ph.D. in chemistry,
chemical physics, or related discipline, and a proven record of experience
with: (i)femtosecond pulsed laser systems and ultrafast spectroscopy
techniques; (ii) experimental studies of photodissociation or reaction
dynamics.
The position is available from 1 August 2012 for two years (with possible
extension for a further year).
Grade : Level a in Pathway 2 of the University of Bristol scale
Salary : £30,122 - £33,884 per annum
