The Royal Archaeological Institute are celebrating the Jubilee with a competition, brief details of which are on website:

The SGMRG (www.sgmrg.co.uk) are submitting an article on some archaeological excavation work we carried out at Yate no2 coal mine site. Some other mining history groups will I am sure have "archaeological or historical achievements" you may wish to have displayed on the RAI website (and there is a prize, although it doesn't say what!).
I guess there is no rush as the website says "Submissions will be judged in early 2013" but it doesn't give a closing date for entries.
We heard of all this via a letter from Andrew Williams of the RAI. Text pasted in from a pdf file, so the typos are not my fault, is below.

ofthe Diamond Jubilee ofour Patron, Her Majesty The Queen.
We have established a section ofour website, where, for the year ofthe Jubilee, we shall host r€ports from local societies
to mark their proudest archaeological or historical achievements ofthe past 60 years. Our congratulatory letter to Her
Majesty will include a reference to the new web page.
The Institute's aims and objectives include the examination, preservation and illustration ofthe ancient monuments, past
history, manners, customs, arts and literature, ofGreat Britain, Northern Ireland and adjacent countries of Europe. ln
meeting these aims, the Society seeks to advance leaming, education and knowledge about archaeology at all levels.
You are invited to submit a short piece for inclusion on the lnstitute's website. Its title should contain the key words by
which you would like it to be searchable. Please keep your copy to a single page of,44, to contain all text (in l2-point
font), jpeg illustration (at least 600x600 pixels in size) and contact information. Submissions will bejudged, and the best
awarded a prize, which will be presented to the winning sociery al Currenl Archaeologt's 2013 LIVE! Conference.
