Lecturers in Communications (Fixed Term Contracts of up to 5 Years)
Introduction:
The School of Communications in Dublin City University is Ireland?s leading
school of communications and media studies, and is now making a number of
new Lecturer appointments from 1 September 2012<x-apple-data-detectors://0>.
We welcome all good quality applicants, but the school has particular needs
in the following areas and that will be a factor in short-listing and final
selection - social media, audience reception, journalism, audio performance,
animation and narrative scriptwriting.
The School of Communications:
The School of Communications has three undergraduate programmes: the B.A
in Journalism, the B.A. in Communications Studies and the B.Sc. in Multimedia.
In addition it has seven taught postgraduate programmes: the M.A. in Film
and Television, the M.A. in Journalism, the M.A. in Political and Public
Communications, the M.Sc. in Multimedia, the M.Sc. in Science Communication,
the M.A. in International Journalism Studies and the M.A. in International
Communications. The School has experienced a significant rise in the numbers
of students in both its undergraduate and post graduate programmes.
The school is committed to high quality research and supports its staff in
such work. The school has led research programmes funded by the Irish Research
Council for Humanities and Social Sciences, the EU and other national and
international donors. The School has established and developed research interests
in the history, ownership and regulation of the media, in journalism practice,
the uses of new media, political communication, interculturalism and the
representation of gender in screen media.
The Successful Candidate
Applicants must have a Ph.D., experience of high quality teaching in communications
and a demonstrated commitment to research as seen in publication of articles
in well regarded academic journals and/or books in leading academic presses.
The successful candidates will be expected to make a significant contribution
to the research and teaching profile of the School. The successful candidates
will be expected to play a role in the development and delivery of the School?s
taught programmes and in the identification and delivery of new programmes
in their specialist area. The school offers excellent opportunities for candidates
to teach within their own area of research specialization and to supervise
PhD candidates.
The successful candidate will be expected to be committed to publication
in well-regarded, international academic peer-reviewed journals and they
will also be expected to contribute to the ongoing development of the research
programmes in the school.

Lecturer above bar: €50,159 -€81,403
€45,143 - €73,263*
Lecturer below bar: €41,502 - €51,724
€37,352 - €46,552*
* Applies to new entrants to the public sector after 01 January 2011.
Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
