Catherine Cookson Country in the Twenty-First Century: A Symposium and Book Launch Northumbria University, 13th June 2012, 2pm-5pm
Speakers to include (and TBC): Lee Barron (Northumbria University), Janis Blower (The South Shields Gazette), Professor Bridget Fowler (University of Glasgow), Kathleen Jones (biographer of Catherine Cookson), James Leggott (Northumbria University) and Professor Diana Wallace (University of Glamorgan).
This symposium, hosted by the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Northumbria University, seeks to address the question of the author’s literary, economic and cultural legacy in the new millennium. It coincides with the publication of the first academic collection devoted entirely to Cookson and her work. Contributors to Catherine Cookson Country: On the Borders of Legitimacy, Fiction and History, edited by Julie Anne Taddeo (Ashgate, 2012) will be present to discuss and debate Cookson’s continuing significance. The symposium will be followed by a book launch, with wine. Copies of Catherine Cookson Country will be available to order at a special half-price discount rate.
The symposium is will take place in Northumbria University on 13th June 2012 from 2pm to 5pm, in Squires Room 020A (Squires Building).
