It probably only matters when a typo can cause problems. I used to work for Gartner, but garter.com was not office friendly, certainly in front of prospective clients. Ooops! Also banking with fistdirect.com is not safe for work.
typo-squatting and cybersquatting can be handled by laws against passing off, usually. Though IANAL
