Yet again another Local Authority establishment is under investigation for allegatoins of abuse towards people with learning difficulties, this time in Cornwall, UK. 5 people in total have been arrested so far - BBC story here -

I am looking for 2 things -
- examples of Disabled People's Organisations working with the Local Authority to help 'open up' these institutional spaces to wider scrutiny. Does anyone know of examples of good practice in this field? It appears to me that the more these spaces can be opened up, the greater the interaction of the wider community in all the activities that take place in these spaces, the less likely this kind of abuse will be. And
- examples of Disabled People's Organisations working with people who use facilities such as these, to help these 'service users' to recognise, record and report different levels of abuse.
Many thanks for your time in this.
