Dear Becky
although it's perhaps not the most appropriate place to discuss, I was intrigued by your comments and would support Anne's sound advice to speak with your tutors in the first instance (as you point out, I'm your Head of School, and Colin Barnes is your personal tutor, but your posting here is the first that either of us have learned of your concern :-)
Since reading it here, I've looked into it for you and I see you are concerned about a module that is not taught by our School, where some generic feedback guidance notes were provided to all students after an exam (as you know, in our School we provide individual written feedback on every piece of work).
I have looked at the generic feedback from the other School, which appears to inform all the students that the average exam mark acheived by the foundation year class overall was 55-65, and suggests that those scoring less than this average might need to increase their study time to avoid struggling with similar work at the higher level of an undergraduate degree.
As you say, the pass mark for the foundation level course is 40. Other than that there is no grading of individual modules and no boundary at 55. I think foundation students do need to achieve a mark of 60 to progress onto an undergraduate degree in the other School (although in our School that isn't the case if a student has passed the entire year).
Like Anne, I'd say that if you're worried about feedback or you're not sure you understand the meaning of it then do talk to the tutor who examined the work (in the other School) or come and see one of your tutors in our School as an alternative.
Best wishes
Mark Priestley
