Couldn't reply to your note, TL on litrefs, so here's what I'd like to
offer--hoping that Tim's here in the same sphere.
Hi Tim--It is indeed experimental. Please do take a look at the back
cover to "TWO" to find what you need for a fuller understanding of the
work. (The cultural "keys" as it were.) The work is based on the
Gilgamesh epic and America's various interventions in the Middle East
as well as the world economic down-turn--and along with the Etymistic
patois you don't "get" (the secret is Arno Schmidt--who's he? you
might ask--look him up, I might reply) "The Hero I Evoke"
alternatively presents some crystal clear commentary, that, with a
knowledge of current history and the Gilgamesh epic, will steer you in
the right direction. This certainly brings up the question of what
"poetry" is and what it's become. My belief is that some of the most
fascinating literary works require the reader to come back again and
again armed with the information that our shared culture provides.
Nothing in TWO is hermetic; in fact you can hear George W. Bush's voice
as he talks to the American People with "Brownie" during the terrible
New Orleans fiasco--part and parcel of the whole terrible span of
densities that the USA was promoting and enduring under our leaden
leader--and yes SOUND is important, because the work is written as much
for the EAR as the eye. Anyway, look at TWO again if you will, and see
if those items listed on the back of the booklet and included in this
note don't help you to "get it" better than you did. Thanks for
spelling my name correctly as well! Every best wish, Jess of Japan
