As you may know, Newport is principle investigator on the CalDys2 EU
funded project to develop games for children with dyslexia to learn
English as a Foreign Language. As part of that, we are committed to doing
a dissemination conference at Newport. This is an invite to you to
participate: Free places are available by signing up at:
http://caldys2.eventbright.com/
Please feel free to cross post or forward this to other interested parties.
Event details:
The CalDys2 project, funded by EACEA under the EU KA2 programme, is just
about to enter its final testing of computer game tools across ten
European partners and eight countries. The tools are aimed specifically at
children and young people with Dyslexia, to aid teachers, parents and
support workers in creating games for teaching English as a Second/Foreign
Language, but are intended to be scalable across a variety of target
audiences. Even though the games have only just been released, the project
web site, http://caldys2.eu <http://caldys2.eu/>, is already being heavily
used by Chinese users!
Experience with this project has opened up the need for debate and
discussion on the effectiveness of using games as tools for learning, both
to support students with Specific Learning Needs and learning languages
generally. Therefore, we'd like to invite serious games, dyslexia and
language specialists, and anyone interested in the use of games for
learning, to a workshop on May 11th 10am-2pm (including lunch*) in
Newport. The day will involve a mix of hands on demos of the CalDys2
games, discussions on assistive technology for dyslexia, games for
learning, and how to develop your own ideas with freely available tools at
little cost. Participants are invited to propose topics for discussion as
part of what will be an active and interactive debate on the value of
games and technology for learning.
