An idle thought. In other stuff NESTA's been involved in they have argued for a broad interpretation of innovation. In the Innovation Research Initiative, for example, a definition they (and their partners) used was 'successful introduction of new services, products, processes, business models and ways of working'. I wonder if there's a a tendency for SF to reinforce the narrower, more conventional interpretation of innovation as the cause of novel artefacts - ray guns, flip-open communicators, robots, weird clothing - and so on.

Subject: [PSCI-COM] science fiction and new technology
Hi all,
A request for help to anyone on the list interested in science fiction.
I’m looking for useful stuff on the links between SF and innovation for a new NESTA project. Details in a blogpost here, to save troubling the list with a long email.

Feel free to pass on to anyone else who might like to know.
Many thanks
