Hi Paul (around the corner!)
It's not a steam engine or mining, but if you have never been into a
glowworm cave I thoroughly recommend Waitomo (been there - got the brochure
if you want to call around and look at it). There is also another glowworm
cave, that's apparently nearly as good (boat trip over lake to get to it).
Peak River mine disaster still not sorted (I think the miners bodies are
still underground), but I guess ther might be steam engines around the
Greymouth area as that is where a lot of the coal comes / came from??
Cheers
Rog

Subject: [mining-history] Mining Remains in New Zealand
Hello
I am currently planning a visit to New Zealand to look at their
stationary and marine steam engines.
I am aware of some mining remains there that will be of interest to me
but can anyone on this list give me any pointers to places worth
visiting or contact e-mail addresses that might be useful please.
Especially anything with remaining stationary or portable engines,
regardless of condition, will be of particular interest.
In the fullness of time I will, of course, be happy to share information
with others who might wish to do something similar
